Breastfeeding for the first time

Another topic closest to my heart is breastfeeding! I don’t know how I got so involved in this until the point of passion! I guess I have always been a naturalist even when I was younger.

I remember when I had my first born daughter, I was so surprised when I breastfed her for the first time in the breastfeeding room of Makati Medical Center. It is still very clear in my mind. She knew exactly what to do! She just reached out for my beasts and suckled effortlessly. I was the one feeling awkward in the beginning. Fortunately I had an abundant supply of milk. In fact, too much, I engorged! When I got home I had chills and fever from the engorgement. I thought I was sick and had fever from a virus or something. So I stopped. I had no support what so ever! I only breastfeed for only a month!

Women have to be empowered to breastfed. Many have lost the confidence, desire, determination and commitment to breastfeed. We need to help them. That is one reason why I started a breastfeeding class and support group. We call ourselves MOMIMOR which stands for “moms, milk and more”. I pray that many more mothers will breastfeed for their sake and their babies!

My next births where different. I knew how to breastfeed better. That in itself is another chapter to tell.
