Topics covered in birthing classes

This is one of the most common question asked to me when couples inquire about my childbirth classes. I usually throw the question back to them to find out why they are interested in the class and what they expect to gain out from the class. From there I am able to give them the right answer to meet their needs and what they are actually looking for.

Just to share, the topics are varied. I try to take up as much as I can to be able to equip them in their labor. Topics include, when to take her to the hospital, hospital procedures, how to stay healthy, nutrition, pregnancy exercises, terms and definitions, anatomy, postpartum, common discomforts, sex, drugs and medication, cesarean section, induction, emergency births, newborn appearance and procedures, breastfeeding, breathing, massages, positions in labor, role of the coach in labor and so much more.

I assure them that the would be fathers that they will not be the one to catch their baby. That I am not out there to make them into obtetricians. That they do not have to see blood. I equip and assure the would be fathers that they will remember and do a good job as a coach, not to worry.

At the end of the class they are relieved and more confident that they know more. They later text me after the birth how beautiful their births turned out to be. I feel privileged that I was able to help them in some big way.
