Vocalizing During Birth, Not A Bad Thing

In one birth I was in I remember the nurse telling the mother who was moaning in hard labor to keep quiet.
In my childbirth classes I encourage it! I tell the mothers to try to express themselves in any way they can and if moaning is one way, then do it! I find that pain can be handled in a lot of ways and one way is through moaning. A lot of the mothers have found relief in doing so while laboring and giving birth. It empowers some. While for others, making sound is a sort of meditation. Some labor quietly and calmly. Others with more power and noise. It should ofcourse not get out of control. Her partner or doula is there to make sure that’s so. I find that a low pitch voice that is steady and long works effectively. Some women sound like a wolf when they do that.
So the next time you give birth, try moaning for a change. it might just work for you!
