Why give birth the Bradley Method®?

I think in all of the different methods in childbirth, the Bradley classes offer the highest percentage in giving birth naturally. I think it is because of the limited number of students per class. Just imagine, the maximum is only eight couples! Aside from that, the classes are long. It is twelve meetings! What other childbirth class could beat that? Actually if given permission by the Academy, the Bradley teacher could offer eight sessions instead of the usual twelve sessions. In the classes we have a lot of exercises and demonstration of the different possible senarios that could happen in the hospital. We practice the different positions in labor and the different comfort measures, massages. We have an intensive workbook to answer and study in every class. There are so many terms and difinitions taught and explained. Emphasis is placed on the mother staying low risk and healthy. Nutrition and exercise are reviewed in evey meeting.
I received a lot of positive comments from my past Bradley students. They said, increased bonding between husband and wife is achived, husband became more understanding of their present state, their husbands also became more involved in the pregnancy and in their nutrition, they are amazed in how much they have learned in class. Husbands became more confident in their ability to coach and in hospital procedures, while their wives became more confident in labor and birth. They become accustomed to the naturalness of birth, just the way mother nature intended it to be. It’s amazing how much education and the teacher’s genuine concern and involvement can do for the pregnant couple. They end up having satisfied births no matter what the outcome. Many come out of the class well infomed, confident, empowered, knowledgeable and committed to do a natural birth. They get to know what it is in birth that they like. What questions to ask their doctors. What they can and can not do in birth. What their options are.
Just yesterday I was contacted by Karen Davila of TV Patrol, a television program aired daily, to do a feature in unconventional births. She heard about my childbirth method through Dr. Rebecca Singson of Makati Medical Center. I told her of an unusual birth one of my patients had. She got interested and so I contacted them and asked for their permission to be featured in the show. It was a natural drug free unmedicated vaginal birth to twins! I was there in the delivery room of St. Lukes Medical Center with Dr. Mayette Sapaula in October 10, 2000 with them.
Dr. Sapaula is my OB who I love so much! Just like a lot of doctors now a days, she is great to believe in the natural process of birth and allows the mother to do it without any intervention, unless medically necessary ofcourse. She is so patient, calm, loving, caring and understanding! So very human! Most of all, Godly. One time I caught her on video praying before performing anything to me on the delivery table. I thank her and the other doctors who respect us, patients and allow our husbands in the labor room to experience this once in a life time magical experience of birth! It’s such a wonderful moment that words alone could not describe. Tears roll down my cheeks together with the husbands right after their babies come into the world. They kiss their wives and are so very proud of them. At that point in time, I see that there is nothing in the world that is too difficult that they both can’t sail through together.
Giving birth naturally is so empowering! It is also the safest way to give birth in. It is the only gift you could give your child that nobody else could. I love being in the birth of my students! What a privilege! So next time you’re pregnant, try it the Mother Nature way!
