Childbirth Classes

Updated Class Schedules: Nov 2007 to April 2008 (As of 24 Feb. 2008)

About The Different CHILDBIRTH CLASSES

(As of Sept 30, 2007)

The childbirth classes I give are all year round. The minute I finished a set, i start on a new one. It consists of one set of 4 sessions every month, once a week on Sundays. The start of the October class PCC #136 (prepared childbirth class) is on Sept. 30, Oct.7, 14 and 21. The first class on Sept.30, will be held at 1-5pm at 8 Phoenix subdivision, H.P. Javier cor. Canley Rd, Pasig City. Same side and street of Valle Verde Countryside Club and Bagaberde Bar but the succeeding classes will be held at the British School, the Fort, Drama Room, Cluster E. You must pre-register. It’s 4,500/couple. Bring a mat and 2 bed pillows. Come in pants. In Pasig, for the first class, it’s a dance studio so we’re seated on the floor ( but there are chairs for those who want ). At the British School we have chairs. Bring food and water for yourself but on the last class we usually have potluck. It’s usually a small group of 5 to 10 couples.

BREASTFEEDING AND INFANT MASSAGE

You may join MOMIMOR (mom’s milk and more) in our free breastfeeding class and support group and infant massage. It’s potluck ( bring food for 4-6people ) at Polo club, Mc Kinley Rd, Makati, Gymboree. Please wear socks and pants, we’ll be seated on the floor. That will be on Oct.27, Saturday 1-3pm.

The following month will be at St.Lukes Medical Center ( the hospital along E. Rodriquez in QC ) on Nov.24 (not sure pls. confirm before going bec. we have a big event on Dec.1, 3-5pm in Shangrila Mall, EDSA, in Gymboree. We might just combine the class). If ever, the Nov. 24 class pushes through, it will be held at the MAB ( Medical Arts Building ), 6th F, Penthouse room at 9-12nn. Bring a baby doll ( it’s better if you have one but come anyway even if you don’t ) ) and mat/beach towel to sit on the floor for demonstration of the infant massage. Wear pants. We sit on chairs at SLMC.

We have decided to postpone November 24 and to combine it with the December 1 class. You may see more about this seminar in my updated class schedules.

The classes and support group consists of breastfeeding couples, pregnant couples and lactation councelors. We meet once a month. Usually every 4th Saturday and alternate venues. Next one on August 25, will be held at Polo Club, Gymboree along Mckinley Rd., Forbes Park, Makati. It’s at 1-3pm. Participants must wear socks. We all sit on the floor so better to come in pants. Since the venue there is smaller, we limit it to 20 participants only, first come first served. It’s always potluck. We encourage you to keep coming because it is a support group for lactating moms combined with a breastfeeding class for the first timers.

Invite your pregnant and breastfeeding friends with their husbands! You need to preregister in all the classes for head count and just in case there are changes, so you could be informed! I rent out Medela electric breast pumps and sell different breast pumps at a discount. Products i carry are AVENT and MEDELS. Also available are nursing wears, breastfeeding pillows and slings. We also have independent lactation councelors who do hospital and home visits with consultation and some do massage.

1ST AID AND CPR

For the 1st Aid and CPR class, you may want to form a class of 15 participants. that’s our minimum and maximum number. It is P1,550/each. It’s life saving so we encourage you to join! It is very informative as well as fun and interactive. Topics covered are on how to stop bleeding wounds, how to transport a body with broken bones, chocking, ingesting poison andmany more! We get to do hands on CPR with a doll for adults and infants. Our speaker is a pediatrician who is certified CPR. We could hold the venue at the British School at the Fort or at MPO ( Medical Plaza Ortigas ), Function room on the last floor, along San Miguel Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City. It’s on the same side of Richmond Hotel, two buildings away and below it is Metrobank. Bring a baby doll and a fat hard bed pillow to represent an adult for the Fetal Heimleck Maneuver in chocking.

BABY CARE CLASS/ B101

The Baby Care Class is given every other month, a Saturday. It’s only P600/couple or P300/person. Pregnant couples attend and sometimes bring their mother’s and yaya’s along. Next one is scheduled on Nov. 10 at 9-12pm at the BSM ( British School of Manila ), Drama Room, Cluster E ( bring a sweater, it can get cold ) although the venue may change to the MPO ( see address above ), if in the last minute BSM cancels due to an important school activity. BSM is found at the Fort along University Ave. corner Balfour St. It’s across International School and Japanese School. It is near Every Nation Building along the same road, University Ave but entrance is along Balfour St. Here we teach the first time couples how to give the baby a bath, how to burp, how to carry, when to take the baby to the hospital, how to tell if baby is sick, immunization, fever, diarrhea, hospital tests and procedures at birth and much much more. It equips the couples so they know what to do with their newborn at home. Bring a baby doll if you have one and a receiving blanket. We have a lot of give aways and give some discounts on the Avent products and Timelife books. We sell nursing wear, breastfeeding pillows and slings. I take orders for AVENT and Medela Pumps.

YOGA

Pre and post natal exercise for the mom as well as the dad! We have certified Yoga instructors who will teach the coulpes safe and gentle stretching, different positions, proper breathing and relaxation. For the moment, it is still offered for free to pregnant couples or those who have just given birth! We do not practice medicine so please ask your doctor when it is safe to exercise. We intend to give the classes more regularly in the future. For now it is once or twice a month depending on the availability of the teacher. By next year starting January, we plan to give it more regularly. You must always pre-register so that we may inform you of any changes. It is always safe to text or call me directly a day before the class at my Globe or Smart numbers. It may be harder to reach me on the day itself. For the schedule and to pre-register please call my secretary Olive. Come in comfortable clothing, in pants. Bring a yoga mat, 2 bed pillows, towel and water for yourself. Next class is scheduled on Oct. 7 and 21, sundays at the British School 2-3pm after my birth class. Please confirm before going one day before if it will push through.

Yoga Class on Cctober 21, did not push through because the teacher got sick we will resume on November see the updated schedule of the classes.

Hi chiqui! im 20 weeks pregnant and its a delicate pregnancy. i was bedrest for 3 months and its just now that my doctor allowed me to go out once in awhile but still with extra extra caution. i also have placenta previa grade 1. i have a feeling i will be giving birth via c-section given my condition. would you recommend childbirth classes to me despite this? i am hoping to learn not only lamaze but also some beneficial tips that will also be appropriate for someone who might undergo c-section.

    Thanks!

    Dear Ann,

Let me congratulate you in your pregnancy and pray that all goes well with you. Thank you for your interest in my childbirth classes. Let me tell you about the my classes and you decide if you want to go ahead and do it. I do group as well as private classes.

I teach everything about the natural process of labor and birth. This is the meat of the class. Includes breathing, massages and comfort measures, positions in labor, pregnancy exercises, nutrition, baby sop’s, hospital procedures, interventons, drugs, c-sec.

If you are not sure you will undergo c-section and you will go for trial labor, then you will find the class beneficial. If you will be scheduled to have a cs, then it’s your choice if you would still want to learn about the natural process of birth. You are always welcome in my class. The best time to start is in between your 24th to the 27th week.

The gentle yoga classes are for free and you may want to join that. So is our breastfeeding class. After yur birth, I could send you a lactation councelor who could look after you to ensure you of milk production and support. Please contact me right after you give birth so that I could help you.

    Always,
    Chiqui

    Hi Chiqui,

I am just 8 weeks pregnant, 31 years old and this is my first pregnancy. I am based in Bicol but I plan to give birth in Manila (facilities are better and there is access to good neonatal care). My pregnancy is quite difficult that my doctor advised me to be on bed rest until I am 4 months pregnant.

Anyway, i am really interested in taking your birthing classes but I do not know when is the right time to take it since it is still too early in my pregnancy. Please advise me so I can also plan on going to Manila and attending the classes.

Furthermore, I am also planning on taking all the other classes (baby care etc…). I am totally spaced out when it comes to caring for babies and I really need this to prepare myself.

    Thanks,

    peachy moraleda

ps: do you give referrals for good ob? My doctor is based here in bicol and I am planning to get another one in manila. She allowed me to get a doctor in manila if i do plan to give birth there.

    Hi Chiqui.

I’m already 25 weeks pregnant now. This is my first baby so I would like to attend one of your childbirth classes. My expected due date is on mid-sept.

I am wondering if I could attend the class alone (or maybe with my mom) this coming July. It would be great if my husband could come along, but he’s currently out of town and will be back by first week of Sept (probably just before I give birth).

Would it still be effective if I go without him?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Thanks.

    Mari

    Hello Chiqui,

I am 13 weeks pregnant and would really like to join your birthing classes and per natal yoga. This is my first baby and am really looking for ways to prepare for the birth and baby care. What classes do you suggest i take aside from the ones i’ve mentioned?

Would you have anything scheduled for the month of July for yoga?

    All the best,
    Jean Reyes

    hi,
i’m interested in organizing a 1st aid class for the yayas in my building, but am unsure as to how to go about it. when are classes available in the next few months (aug/sept)? we are in the fort, so the british school venue sounds ideal. please e-mail with info so that i can post a notice in the lobby and get the ball rolling. thanks!

  14. on 05 Aug 2008 at 11:06 pm Chiqui Brosas

Hi Maya! We would need 15 participants not more not less, before we could start a First Aid/ CPR class. You may want to do it in a club house or in somebody’s house. We would need a place where the participants can fit comfortably. And a floor area where we could put 3 sets of dummy dolls for the actual demo. The participants are divided into 3 groups for this. Better if the participants wear pants so they could sit on the floor for the demo. You may want to prepare snacks and drinks for them (it is up to you). We would need a white screen where we could project the LCD and a table to put it on. We give out hand outs. Payment is in full a week before and is nonrefundable. Fee is P1550/participants. We will give a certificate of attendance so you would have to email all the names a week before. That is pretty much what we need. Please text Olive if you are interested so we could set the date. +639209052737
